Turkish Light Utility Helicopter

Deal between TAI, Honeywell and Rolls-Royce will establish local assembly, parts manufacturing, inspection, and test and depot repair capability in Turkey

10 December 2015

Turkish Aerospace Industries and the Light Helicopter Turbine Engine Company, a 50-50 partnership between Honeywell International Inc. and Rolls-Royce, have signed an agreement to supply CTS800 turboshaft engines for Turkish Light Utility Helicopter, a program of the Undersecretary for Defence Industry.

The agreement is expected to provide helicopters to the local Turkish military and civil market, and globally. Operators will benefit from a proven commercial and military propulsion system that expands mission range and payload.

In addition to the development program, Light Helicopter Turbine Engine Company (LHTEC) plans to industrialise production and maintenance of the engine in Turkey, boosting the Turkish aerospace market by providing local opportunities for manufacturing and depot repair.

日本一本道最新高清无码“This deal will deliver a wealth of employment and industrial benefits to the Turkish aerospace industry,” said Daryl Mastin, president, LHTEC. “LHTEC is committed to working with local Turkish companies to manufacture the CTS800 engine as well as establish a local depot with maintenance and repair capabilities to support these future fleets.”

日本一本道最新高清无码The CTS800 powered Wildcat is set to replace the long-serving Gem powered Lynx. Wildcat is the latest generation of multi-role helicopter specifically procured to operate from the Frigates and Destroyers of the Royal Navy.

Wildcat will exploit the strengths of the CTS800-4N engine developed by the Light Helicopter Turbine Engine Company. The two CTS800s on board combine to energise this new aircraft with 2,640 shaft horsepower (shp) for take-off. A 37 percent greater power to weight ratio as previous-generation helicopter engines. Besides delivering far better performance in extremes of heat and altitude, CTS800 power will also enable Wildcat to carry a complete suite of on-board systems to give the aircraft uniquely effective multi-tasking abilities, ideal both over land and sea. The UK Ministry of Defence has already ordered 62 Wildcats, 28 of which will join the Royal Navy. They began to enter operational service in 2014 and 2015 respectively.

Adrian Purcell, Programme Manager Helicopters, said: “The proven CTS800 engine is the experienced, technology leader in its power range. Having already seen service in UK MOD Lynx Mk9A aircraft in Afghanistan, the CTS800 has demonstrated exceptional operational performance, providing reliable power, improved fuel efficiency, and excellent hot and high performance required for a variety of applications”.

Collaborative technology

Having proven its class-leading performance and reliability during the development phase of the RAH-66 Comanche program, the CTS800 family has secured a number of production applications.

The commercially-certified CTS800-4N variant, which features a speed-reduction gearbox, powers the latest generations of the versatile AgustaWestland Lynx family.

The CTS800-powered Lynx applications benefit from a 35% increase in installed power, which substantially enhances its ‘hot and high’ performance. The CTS800 is also being offered as an engine upgrade for existing Lynx fleets.
