Our approach

Our world ischanging. Human activity is increasing the levels of greenhouse gases in theatmosphere and accelerating global climate change.

At the sametime, increasing global population and wealth is driving further demand forpower and mobility. To meet this demand in the context of increasedunderstanding of the potential impacts of climate change, the power thatmatters must be lower carbon power.

日本一本道最新高清无码We see it as our responsibility as well as abusiness imperative to act on climate change. We are committed to playing a leadingpart in helping society transition to a net zero carbon economy, whilstmaintaining the levels of global connectivity our products provide

Governance

日本一本道最新高清无码Our Group governance framework sets out how we govern our business, manage risk, and ensure standards are maintained across our global operations. Sustainability and climate change is a core component of this framework.

The development and implementation of environmental and climate-related policy is the responsibility of our executive-level Environment & Sustainability committee, chaired by the Chief Technology Officer. This committee help to co-ordinate activities across the Group, with support and oversight provided by our board-level Safety, Ethics & Sustainability Committee.

To complement our own expertise, we have an independent Environmental Advisory Committee made up of respected environmental experts from academia. The Committee helps ratify our approach to environmental challenges by reviewing and providing commentary on our product and operational strategies. We place great value on the independent advice this Committee provides.

Strategy

Mitigating climate change is a strategic imperative for society and for Rolls-Royce. Successful transition to a low carbon economy will require technological solutions that we are well placed to provide. We believe that Rolls-Royce can and must be part of the solution.

We’ve used scenario planning techniques to explore the resilience of our business model and strategy in the context of future climate change and the transition to a low carbon global economy. Three scenarios were developed based on varying global temperature increases and societal responses – one of which aligned to the temperature rise limit of 1.5oC set out by the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC). The outputs from this have been used to inform our strategy.

日本一本道最新高清无码We have a three-part Group-wide environmental approach, embedded within our wider company strategy:

Products and Services

Incremental improvements of existing products and services

Novel Technologies

Novel technologies, including electrification

Operations and Facilities

Minimising the impacts of operations and facilities

Risk and opportunity

We recognise the substantial potential risks and opportunities presented by climate change. These include risks and opportunities associated with both physical changes and the transition to a low carbon global economy.

日本一本道最新高清无码The assessment and management of climate-related risk and opportunity is an integral part of our enterprise risk management process.  In every instance, our management to climate-related risks and opportunities is done in conjunction with consideration of the organisation’s broader goals and objectives as part of our integrated risk management process.

Targets and metrics

We use a range of targets and metrics to help assess and measure our management of the risks and opportunities presented by climate-change as well as to help guide our strategic response to broader sustainability challenges.

The most significant impacts from climate-related risks and opportunities are associated with in use emissions of our products (Scope 3). Because our products are operated as a component within a wider system, we use both organisational and sector level goals and targets.

Within the aviation industry we have committed to sector level goals including the ACARE Flightpath 2050 goals:

75%
Reduce aircraft CO2 emissions by 75% (per passenger kilometre)
65%
Reduce noise by 65%
75%
The engine reduction in the NOx certification metric by 75%

These goals are relative to a typical aircraft product in 2000.

Recognising the importance of operational sustainability, we also set ourselves ambitious targets to reduce the environmental impacts of our global operations and facilities:

Our science-based greenhouse gas emissions reduction target for emission associated to the operation of our facilities (Scope 1 & 2) aligns to the emissions reduction pathway required to curb temperate rise to 1.5oC and is helping drive investment in low carbon and renewable power generation across our global estate.
